NJCAA adopts new governance structure
NJCAA Board of Directors approved the passing of a new governance structure
Colorado Springs, CO— The NJCAA has announced the adoption of a new governance structure that will pave the way for endless opportunities for student-athletes at all three divisions. Passed by the Board of Directors at the 2018 NJCAA Annual Meetings, hosted by the Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs, CO, the new structure will take place beginning August 1, 2018.
The NJCAA Board of Directors approved the motion on April 7 with the official title as "NJCAA Board of Regents", an opportunity that will connect all 24 of the association's regions together on a monthly basis to assist in all aspects of the NJCAA as a whole.
A single representative from each of the 24 regions will be elected to a board chair to serve their region. Other elected positions will include a women's senior administrator, a men's senior administrator, and a possible at-large position.
NJCAA Executive Director Dr. Christopher Parker expressed his passion for moving the new governance structure forward. "The NJCAA is fortunate to have so many great leaders throughout the country and we are excited about this new governance structure moving us forward to help serve all of our student-athletes, coaches, SIDs, administrators, athletic trainers, presidents and member institutions as a whole."
Benefits of the new structure include monthly engagement from the Board of Regents from all over the country with the ability to adapt to higher education changes and practices. The 24-member board will provide sound structure with a national leadership presence while fitting the mold for not-for-profit organizations and institutions. Leaders from across the NJCAA will receive opportunities to engage while obtaining transparent information from their respective region leaders.
NJCAA President Mick McDaniel sees the new structure as a focal point of positive progression to the future. "At our annual meetings, we ushered in a new era of inclusive leadership to move the NJCAA forward in 2018. Now we put our plans into action knowing we have the services, programs and leadership that will take us to new heights."
